Reflection 4
Each video and article has a number of similarities and differences between each other, but the main thing that will pop out at you is the different beliefs and validations by each individual person and the different experiences each one of these authors and speakers had to endure to form their belief. Religious diversity here in the U.S is a lot more accepting than in the Middle East. There have been times were people were punished by other extreme groups out of disregard for the law in the U.S, but in the Middle East a lot of the time if you're not with the main religion you could be killed. We have people here who practice the Muslim faith the same as others do in the Middle East and it is not a political problem.
There will always be hatred in the world and that hatred will be projected at ideas or beliefs that are different or that people just don't understand. As time goes on I think the acceptance of different religions will grow because the generation that is being raised is used to all of the diversity around them and they aren't being taught that someone else's God is the devil and they are terrorists. It's not as strict as it was in the 1900's.
From the two videos we can take that everyone has different beliefs with different experiences. Charlemagne and Steven grew up in the same town and went to the same school, but they both went down a different path. Steven took religion as a way of life and made it into a career. Charlemagne had to figure out that the thug life wasn't for him. He wanted to achieve his dream. He didn't seem as far into God as Steven, but he still thanks God for his success. They both accepted what the other preached.
In Ricky Gervais's video he answers some questions that create a difficult debate. He was asked how to explain the world. Why or how is there a universe? I enjoyed his comment at the end of the video stating "if you take all of the religious books and texts and burned them and everyone forgot about them completely in a hundred years the religious beliefs would not appear the same. They would not come back. Now if we burned all of the scientific books, articles, texts, and everything else those facts will still be the same in a hundred years". Just because Gervais identifies as an atheist doesn't mean that your belief in God is wrong and the host and Ricky made that a good point in the video.
that's very true who says some one is wrong or right about if there is a true god that created the universe. Religion is just something I life that keep many people hopeful.
ReplyDeleteI think its crazy that you can grow up in the same area as someone and have completely different views towards different things. When I think of small rural towns, I think they all have the same prejudices about certain groups of people. But, this video showed me that this isn't the truth. For that reason, I agree with you. There will always be some type of hatred towards someone who is different but hopefully, over time there can be modifications to these prejudices. Our country is so diverse now, which shows for the need to accept others religions.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that Religious Diversity is more accepting here in the United States than it is in the Middle East as people here don't usually have to worry about being killed because of their religious beliefs.
